Medication Technician
This is a 20 hour training program taught by Registered Nurses approved by the Maryland Board of Nursing. The curriculum used and topics covered are those specified by the Maryland Board of Nursing. Those who complete the program receive their certification from the Maryland Board of Nursing. Prospective employers can then search for their names on the Maryland Board of Nursing website. The certification must be renewed every two years. Medication technicians only perform the delegated nursing function of medication administration. A registered nurse (RN) delegating nurse must supervise the CMTs.
Note: The Medication Technician program should not be confused with the 60 or more hours Medicine Aid program only offered by Community Colleges.
What do Medication Technicians do?
They administered medication in assisted living, school health, adult day care, juvenile service, Developmental Disabilities Administration (DDA) Alternative Living Units (ALU) and group homes, etc. The Medication Tech offered at Stein Academy is for those aspiring to work in Assisted Living, School health, Adult Day Care, Juvenile Services.
